Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I join the Sherman Color Guard?
As a co-curricular activity, Color Guard encompasses the many benefits that an extra curricular activity can have:
Explores Interests
Creates Broader Perspectives
Social Opportunities
Essential Life Skills
Additions to Resume's
Many more!
Performing with the Color Guard requires hard work and dedication. Practicing and performing with the guard teaches students the valuable life skills of time management, focused effort / goal setting, determined and persistent work toward a common goal, and high-level team work. But most of all, it's fun!
Members of the Sherman Color Guard form strong friendships. They become part of a tightly-knit group who look out for one another throughout their time in high school. They also develop a passion for performing which drives their work ethic to continually push them to be better.
Who can join the Sherman Color Guard?
Any hard working student from an entering freshman to incoming senior, who has an interest in dance, performance, and a positive, life-changing teamwork experience! Absolutely no prior dance or performance experience is required.
How do I join?
In late Spring, 'Audition Clinics' are held prior to a formal audition to allow interested members a chance to "try it out" and for returning members to excel & expand their skills, and to show-off their improvement throughout the process. Remember, many members of the color guard have had little or no dance experience before they came to one of our camps or clinics. These activities are truly designed to be an introduction to the Color Guard experience.
For more information on Mini Camps, Audition Clinics, or Audition dates, please visit the rest of our website or contact us with any additional questions.
When Does the Color Guard Rehearse?
During the fall, the Color Guard follows the same schedule as the marching band (with some exceptions), as it is part of the marching band's fall production. The Sherman Bearcat Band performs at Sherman Varsity football games, and at marching band contests held in various places throughout North Texas and the State of Texas.
During the winter and spring months the guard follows its own rehearsal and performance schedule, and competes at designated Winter Guard competitions held in North Texas.
